An argument between Michigan users on the media platform X was sparked by a tweet proclaiming northwestern Michigan is the "worst place on the planet."

The tweet, which got 6.5 million views, was posted to X on Wednesday by user "MilkManMSU." The tweet includes a picture of a map of Michigan with the northwestern area of the lower peninsula and parts of the Upper Peninsula circled in red and an accompanying caption reading, "Just your annual reminder that this is the worst place on the planet. Never visit. Especially in the summer."

Cities in the red circled area included popular Michigan tourist destinations like Mackinac Island, Traverse City, Muskegon, and Cadillac, some of which see millions of visitors each summer.

Some X users went along with the joke and replied to the tweet with pictures of various sunny, serene-looking Michigan lakes and destinations in the area, with sarcastic captions lampooning the users that took the tweet seriously.

User Bobby Lobdell posted a pleasing sunset picture over a lake captioned, while user Veritas Libertas posted a cute German Shepherd on a sandy shore with the caption,

MilkManMSU took to X two days later to repost the tweet with reading, "There鈥檚 a concerning amount of people who think I鈥檓 being serious here."

Commenters on the newer tweet poked fun at those who took the joke seriously. User "William Kiefer" replied "Sarcasm has never translated well on the internet for the non-sarcastic. Let's just call it a private joke and leave others wailing and teeth gnashing," while user "Karrie" joked "Let them think what they want!!! It's an awful place to go."

MilkManMSU then replied to his repost a day later with a tweet reading,
